In collaboration with #Hack4ID, the Incubation Program at Gadjah Mada University once again took place in Yogyakarta. This initiative was organized with the objective of aiding industry stakeholders in addressing regional and industrial challenges through the innovative potential of aspiring startup founders.
Ira Ardiana Yunianti, the Sub-directorate Head of Business Development at the Directorate of Business Development, Gadjah Mada University, emphasized their strong support for fostering a more sustainable digital ecosystem. “To realize this aspiration, #Hack4ID Kominfo aims to harness the potential of young talent as a driving force. We also aim to contribute to Indonesia’s dream of creating a digital economy and support UGM’s vision as a sociopreneur university. The support of #Hack4ID is also extended through the Innovative Academy UGM,” she expressed.
This collaboration took the form of a Hackathon event titled #Hack4ID x Startup Talents, spanning two consecutive days, held on August 12-13, 2023, at The Alana Yogyakarta Hotel & Convention Center. The event commenced with a Kick-off session aimed at immersing prospective startup founders in the nuances of industry challenges.
Risma Fattahatin Muizzullah, the Head of the Startup4Industry Program at the Ministry of Industry, lent support to this initiative by presenting various industry challenges to stimulate innovative ideas from aspiring startup founders. “From the Ministry of Industry, we hope that our friends can collaborate with the manufacturing industry to enhance their competitiveness. We have also created approximately 40 implementation projects. We seek solutions in areas such as IoT, ERP, Automation. Many small industries require such technology to support production. We are also exploring solutions in the fields of nanotechnology and renewable energy,” he emphasized.
To aid participants in identifying industry-specific challenges, a practitioner, Fariz GTJ, CEO & Founder of KiriminAja, shared his experiences and tips on determining problem-solution fit. He remarked, “Fit occurs when people spend money or place repeat orders; that’s when it’s a fit. Reviews are superficial, but if someone keeps spending repeatedly, it means the product fits. Problem-solution fit is about reducing business risks,” he explained.
Prospective startup founders who had gained insight into industrial challenges were guided to form startup teams comprising 3-5 members, each assuming a distinct role: Hustler, Hipster, and Hacker. Each formed team progressed to the problem sprint stage, facilitated by Safrian Jayadi, the Sprint Master. During the problem sprint phase, startups received guidance from experienced mentors in structuring user journey stages, How Might We questions, and the formulation of a Sprint Goal Setting, representing the core issues to be addressed.
The issues identified by each startup served as the foundation for crafting innovative, technology-based solutions in the Solution Sprint phase. The primary output of the Solution Sprint phase was the formation of Solution sketches. Through various stages, such as building a feedback museum, ideation, and crazy8 exercises, participants generated solution ideas tailored to resolve industry-specific challenges effectively.
Upon creating solution sketches, each startup team was required to construct a pitch deck outlining the problem and solution, encapsulating their respective startups. Material preparation for crafting an effective pitch deck was provided by Delta Purna Widyangga, CEO of Qiscus, who conveyed five key principles in pitching.
The event culminated in a pitching session, with all startup teams presenting their ideas before a panel of three judges: Fariz GTJ (CEO & Founder of KiriminAja), Denny Wijayanto (Head of Program Innovative Academy), and Ajian Kamadeva (Founder of Kamadeva).
#Hack4ID x Startup Talents Innovative Academy received positive feedback from participants who expressed satisfaction with the event. Fira from Team Metabolica remarked, “This event is excellent; I am very satisfied and helped in finding teammates to bring my ideas to life.” Arya, another participant, also shared similar sentiments, stating that the event provided fresh insights, not only in theory but also in practical application. “This event is really amazing, even though we are relatively new and felt a bit pressured to follow the program. But overall, the speakers were excellent, and we learned from their experiences in a practical manner,” he added.
The successful execution of this event was made possible through collaborative partnerships and received primary support from the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia and Innovative Academy. Active support was provided by mentors from diverse industrial backgrounds, including Annisa Swastika (Professional Management at iTalenta), Hestyriani Anisa Widyaningsih (COO at PT. Widaya Kreasi Bangsa), Inggih Wicaksono (Middle Web Developer at Erasys Consulting), Kennedy Radmat H (Co-Founder and COO of Genial Digital Nusantara), Rosmawarda Yunarya (Quality Assurance at Passpod Indonesia), Muhamad Agung As’ari (Representative of Centrep Indonesia at Centrep.Co), Ade Rahadian (Chairman of the Startup Community in Jogja), and Yulindra Dwi Wirawan (Researcher at BRIN).
